Inuit artists come from a place that has no one word for art. These jewellers' bold designs sing of the Inuit imagination and Nunavummiut experiences, and they relate the present moment to our future. This opening of possibilities invigorates our understanding of art.
Jewellery in its metal form is a relatively new medium for Inuit artists. Mathew has not only helped pioneer, but also develop and elevate this artform. In his studio "Aayuraa", Mathew Nuqingaq has created a space in Iqaluit that functions as a rare hub of shared artistic activity. Maintaining the studio throughout his artistic career, both Matthew and the studio itself serve to inspire.
