Self-Indulgent Ring in polymer clay, glass, cubic zirconia, fine silver and powder coated copper. It measures 12 L x 4 W x 3 H cm and was made in 2021. Size 7 and 6 To be worn with love and care.
“One can be serious about the frivolous, frivolous about the serious.” Susan Sontag
Self-Indulgent is an exercise in material exploration and form, breaking free of the confinement of any boundaries or rules: the type of boundaries we put on ourselves that only hold us back.
I dethrone the seriousness by injecting colour into this ring with a guava link shank and a large cobalt blue piece of glass cut like a gemstone. The exaggerated mass, built with hundreds of shell like-pieces of polymer clay, sprawls across the fingers, floating by like a cloud.
