The work includes a portrait of Chief Red Fox (Lakota: Tokalu Luta) who was a well known Oglala Lakota Sioux historical figure. An actor, Indigenous rights advocate, performer and translator in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, he appeared in numerous silent western films in the 1920s. Witness to the impact of technology documenting cultural change, today his image in film and photographic portraits are preserved in the archives of digital memory.
