It is utterly disheartening to see critical craft programs at George Brown, Sheridan, and OCAD U at risk. Specialized programs for jewellery, textiles, and ceramics are unique, and once they’re gone, they won’t come back. To lose these programs would be an enormous loss for Ontario. Please protest through the links given.

Students, educators, and industry advocates are raising urgent alarms about the future of craft education in Ontario. Amid widespread post-secondary cuts, flagship studio-based craft programs at George Brown College, Sheridan College, and OCAD University are facing suspension and uncertain futures — threatening the province’s cultural and economic vitality.
In a province already ranked last in Canada for per-student post-secondary funding, the latest suspensions in craft programs are a canary in the coal mine. These programs — including Jewellery & Gemmology, Ceramics, Furniture, Glass, and Textiles — are not only academically rigorous but also critical pipelines for Ontario’s cultural and creative industries.
These aren’t just school programs — they’re entire ecosystems of skill, heritage, and economic opportunity, If these programs disappear, so do generations of talent, innovation, and cultural identity.
