Tree Arch in ceramic and glazes from the series, A Season for Everything – a Journey Through Time and Space

A visual tale in porcelain which playfully engages with the notion of time and space. The works follow eight friends who represent eight phases of the moon and the notion of passing time. The characters travel through the seasons, and along their journey, they encounter different representations of the history of philosophical thought on the nature of time and space.

If time and space, as sages say, Are things which cannot be,
The sun which does not feel decay No greater is than we.
So why, Love, should we ever pray To live a century?
The butterfly that lives a day Has lived eternity.

    T.S. Eliot, “A Lyric”

    15 x 13 x 10 inches

This series initially developed for a solo 2016 Craft Ontario exhibition When Horses Walked on Water in Toronto.
The series explores nature and industrial development through bird imagery. Birds were native and abundant to the area before urban development and are a reflection on the environment before extensive human habitation and manipulation.

My primary drive as a visual artist has been that of story telling from a personal point of departure or connection. To establish this connection, I often use historical documents and artifacts as a visual point of departure in my work.  As I have spent most of my life in the country, responding to nature and human dependence on the land are the strongest themes in my work.
