My collection is inspired by the Obi which is a sash for a Kimono. Kimono is a part of Japanese heritage as well as an attire for special occasions. It is a traditional craft, but still familiar to us in the modern day. The Obi is one continuous piece of fabric, and It appears supple, voluminous and is styled in various beautiful patterns with different knotting methods. Forging and forming techniques are used for these pieces.

Tomoe Akiba graduated from the jewellery art program at George Brown College in 2024. Born in Japan, she began following her passion for jewellery design and fabrication in 2020 in Toronto. Her approach is inspired by a combination of her Japanese heritage and her appreciation for Western elements of design, realized in precious metals and gemstones.
