Announcing the laureates of the 19th annual National Jewellery Student Competition: Congratulations
Kaitlyn Derrah (NBCCD)
and Luofan Zhuang (OCADU)!
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL 2022 FINALISTS:
Aleena Derohanian, Eunhui (Stella) Lee, Gabriel Normandeau, and Lara Sturzenbaum.
Selection for the competition is based on technical excellence, ingenuity, and strength of creative vision. One of a kind, production prototypes, jewellery and objects are considered equally. The finalists have their work reviewed onsite by a three-member jury this year: Nancy Baele, Author and Critic; Joe A. Friday, Collector and Community Arts Supporter Williams; and Anna Williams, Artist, and Assistant Dominion Sculptor of Canada.
This year there was a robust response with strengths in both jewellery and object categories. Six finalists were invited from five different universities. These student jewellers demonstrate a variety of techniques and materials, drawing from diverse sources of inspiration: street art, the food we consume, aliens, physics, visions of landscapes and ecosystems, memories of childhood games. The one thing that binds them together is an evident joy of making.
Thank you to our eminent jurors:
Nancy Baele
Author and Critic
Joe A. Friday

Anna Williams
