Rayce Min
“Dog taking piss” is the way Rayce describes his art practice, because the inspiration for him to to create art is that he wants to leave “the evidence of his existence”. Rayce had this idea since he was in high school, when he was making graffiti and tagging all around the city to tell people that he was there. This idea led him into jewellery making, as he believes that wearing jewellery is a way of “leaving marks on people”, therefore he has been working toward his goal. In his art practice, there are a lot of human- related elements and creature-related elements, which show his interests. Besides the artistic side of works, Rayce is also trying to develop a series of production line-style jewellery combining his smiley face ‘Trashland’ logo. He does not have a preference for any side of works, because they both represent Rayce as a maker, but he is currently balancing the artistic side and the commercial side of works to expand his skill set and develop himself further as a metalsmith.
Originally from Beijing, China, Rayce Min studied Jewelry and Metal Arts the California College of the Arts in Oakland, California. He is currently furthering his education in Jewellery and Metalsmithing at NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 2023, Rayce was the winner of the 20th annual National Jewellery Student Competition at L. A. Pai Gallery.
