The Calydonian Boar Hunt, 2020, 1 of 5 of The Allegory of Atalanta Series. Edition of 3, 48 x 88 inches.
This 12-panel woodcut is printed on tiled sheets of kozuke washi paper. It is engineered to line up seamlessly despite its enormous size. Printed on the artist's ingenious printing press (made of a car jack, melamine and oak). Created for her upcoming solo exhibition Untold Stories I once Wished Lost at the Karsh-Masson Gallery (re-scheduled for 2021).
Atalanta was the only woman to take part in the Calydonian Boar hunt alongside Theseus and Meleager. With the quarry cornered, the hunt devolved into chaos. Peleus misses his mark and accidentally kills Eurytion while Atalanta raises her bow steady and sure, draws, and strikes first blood. Meleager is awed and awards her the hide as an honour prize.
