Inspired by ancient Chinese Five Emperor Coins and traditional ceremonial masks Nuo Mian.
The inspiration and evolution behind the Five Emperor Coins are derived from five distinct, thriving dynasties that were both economically and socially successful, experiencing profound population growth and active trade. As a result, some believe that the coins have absorbed energy from the numerous hands and places they passed through, making them capable of blessing the carrier and fending off monsters.
The traditional ceremonial masks of China — Nuo Mian — held a similar spiritual significance. These masks were crafte in the likeness of gods and notable figures. During ancient ceremonies, the ritual performers who donned the masks were believed to invite sacred spirits into their bodies, inheriting their power to bless the village and drive away ghosts, pestilences, and diseases.
