tent cloth 01 detail
tent cloth trio

Carl Stewart

tent cloth 01. This cloth was woven using cotton and the canvas of a WWII tent. The tent made in in Ottawa in 1944 by the CH Petch and Sons Co. The tent was taken apart seam-by-seam and then unwoven thread-by-thread.

The pattern of the stripes in this cloth is reminiscent of ticking, the fabric used in making mattresses, and reminds us that this tent was where soldiers would have slept.
