Hilma & the Swans, Porcelain Sculpture by Lisa Creskey
Hilma and the Swan is a one of a kind double-vessel with black or white swans against the against the day or night-time skies. Note the sense of uplift of the wings as they penetrate the vessel walls--breaking through to a different plane with the softest wingtip gestures. The vessel measures15cm x 45cm x 25cm, 2026.
The series is an exploration of the dualities present in the life and work of Hilma af Klint, a Swedish artist who navigated the realms of traditional representation and mystical symbolism. While af Klint's landscape paintings, with their serene depictions of the natural world, presented a traditional and accessible face to the world, her mystical works, featuring the enigmatic swan motif, revealed a more esoteric and personal aspect of her artistic vision. These two seemingly disparate threads of af Klint's work have long fascinated me, and my ceramic vessels attempt to unite them, seeking to discover something new about the artist's inner world.
