Sandy Maniapik

Pendant necklace of carved black baleen. Around 4.2 x 2 cm, on a 42 cm (18") chain. Artist Sandy Maniapik is from Pangnirtung.

Baleen is a light and durable material. The keratine-based plates are formed in the whale's mouth and help filter its food (krill) from water.
