Sandy Maniapik

Stud earrings of carved black baleen. Artist Sandy Maniapik is from Pangnirtung. These minimal studs measure approx. 6 x 6 mm, with a 3 mm depth.

Baleen is a light and durable material. The keratine-based plates are formed in the whale's mouth and help filter its food (krill) from water.
