1000 Memories, Mixed Media Necklace by Monika Urbaniak

1000 memories, necklace; burnt vellum cut outs, 925 Silver, found object (kelp); hand fabricated; 27”, the necklace is 20” and the kelp component is 3”X 2”; March 2024.

The piece speaks about memory loss. Velum as material is semi-transparent and represents seeing the past through a symbolic and literal fog. The petals are burnt, showing slow process of forgetting when one suffers from dementia. Each petal is unique, showing a different level of “burnt” memories. The found kelp piece mimics the entanglement of past and present.
