Balance, Mixed Media Brooch by Monika Urbaniak

Balance, brooch; recycled squeaker, egg shells, pebbles, 925 Silver; steel; hand fabricated; 3” X 2”; March 2024.

The brooch utilizes a recycled dog toy component to house broken egg shells and pebbles collected on a beach during a holiday. The broken egg shells speak to a reality that has been shattered through loss and the pebbles represent the action of picking up the pieces to create something new. Here the broken shells and ununiformed pebbles, when put together within the confines of the toy, they create a balanced reality that holds the imperfection together and allows us to function in the new way.
