A Handful of Light: Ione Thorkelsson launched yesterday and was lively until after close! Glass appreciators included former museum directors, gallery dealers, curators and fellow artists. And the lovely Loretta Glass Studio artists were here in force to kickstart it all with a talk beforehand. Collectors purchased most of The Invention of Glass books, a work about the artist in the context of early glass studio scene in Canada, but there are two left. Ione was the first? or one of the first women who took to glass, building her own hot studio (first from a chicken coop) on their own property, far away from any other studios or schools.
